Specialist Tours of Scotland
Scotland’s abundance of pleasurable sights, sounds and tastes makes it impossible to sample everything in a short time.
A specialist tour can concentrate on one or whatever combination of interests you choose from Clans, Castles, Golf, Fishing, Adventure or Whisky, or anything else that takes your fancy.
Scotland’s diverse landscape and lack of motorways can mean long journey times. Please remember this when planning your tour. We are only too happy to advise and assist you in planning your personalised itinerary.
Scottish Whisky Tours
Explore… the huge range of distilleries
Experience… the process of whisky making
Enjoy… the taste of the different blends and malts
Uisge Beatha, Gaelic for whisky, translates as the Water of Life. Whisky, evolving over 500 years, ranges through distinctive blends, complex pure malts and rich single malts.
The Malt Whisky Trail on Speyside follows 7 working distilleries: Benromach, Glen Moray, Strathisla, Glen Grant, Glenfiddich, The Glenlivet & Cardhu – the historic distillery Dallas Dhu, and the fascinating Speyside cooperage.
Visit the home of the Famous Grouse, Glenturret at Crieff. Call in at Tullibardine, near Gleneagles Hotel, also part of a Visitor Centre with shops and cafés. Edradour, near Pitlochry, the smallest distillery in Scotland has Blair Athol, the oldest working distillery, as its near neighbour.
Further south, just outside Edinburgh, is Glenkinchie distillery which produces the ‘Edinburgh Malt’ of the famous 6 classic malts. Glengoyne distillery, near Loch Lomond, has the distinction of using barley which has been air-dried rather than the traditional peat-dried used by other distilleries.
Scottish Castles Tours
Tour Scotland’s castle country in Aberdeenshire from the 12th century ruins of the romantic Dunnotar to the glorious ruins of Huntly.
Visit the 16th-century tower house of Crathes Castle with its stunning gardens, Braemar Castle or Brodie Castle near Forres.
Scottish Castles with legitimate claims to royal heritage include Castle Mey, the Queen Mother’s residence; Glamis Castle, her favoured childhood holiday escape, and Balmoral Castle, the Scottish holiday home of the Royal Family.
The Scottish castle trail links many of the ruins of castles like Kildrummy with restored castles like Fyvie or Castle Fraser with its distinctive turrets
Inverness Castle, a neo-Norman 19th century castle, now houses the Sheriff’s Court and overlooks the River Ness while Urquhart Castle, strategically sited on Loch Ness, has a fascinating history. Visitors, though, are probably more attracted by the possibility of sighting ‘Nessie’.
Eilean Donan, known as Scotland’s most romantic castle, could tell a tale or two… Further west still, the Isle of Skye is home to several castles in various states of repair, with colourful histories and all worth a visit.
Remember, too, the majestic Edinburgh and Stirling Castles both sitting high on their rocks with fantastic views of the surrounding areas.
Scottish Clans and Ancestry Tours
Explore… the lives and times of your ancestors.
Experience… where they came from and how they lived.
Enjoy… discovering whether you are part of that history…
Scotland is a land of proud people, passionate about their country and heritage. Many people worldwide claim Scottish Ancestry and a tour through our beautiful country is surely the way to feel connected.
Research your roots. Walk in the footsteps of your respective clans. These people lived the history of Scotland and made Scotland what it is today.
GOLF, FISHING and ADVENTURE SPORTS are detailed under the Corporate Heading but can be as much a part of your tour as you wish.
